As more and more consumers become aware that renting video games online is a very viable alternative to buying, the companies offering this service get more and more competitive. It's a rapidly growing business, and the increased competition only spells good news for consumers.
One of the best marketing approaches to this competition, is the free trial offer. Good for the companies offering it, and really good for the consumers. Especially for those perspective customers who may be a little apprehensive about the whole concept of game rentals coming through the mail. It's basically a no risk, can't lose proposition. If you don't like the service, than quit and try the next one.
What I really like about free trials, is the opportunity it provides me the customer to put the rental companies through their paces. They all talk about great customer service, a large selection (over 5000 titles for some), and fast delivery of your game choices. But who really delivers? Find out for yourself. Sign up for a free trial (maybe 2 or 3 at once), and be that customer from hell. Call customer support, and be as tough, demanding and unreasonable with your request as you can. The next day, do it again with another concern. See what happens. Did they blow you off, do the minimum, or truly exceed your expectations? Your the best judge of that.
